PEACHTREE CITY, GA Wearing compression socks is a huge trend in sports right now. That’s why SIGVARIS is proud to announce that the company is sponsoring one of their own employee athletes who is running the Philadelphia Marathon on Nov. 20. The SIGVARIS employee (along with 99 other runners) is raising money to help end Alzheimer’s. As of today, the group has raised more than $65,000 and hopes to raise more than $100,000.

As one of the 100 runners raising money for the cause, Jen DiRenzo, a SIGVARIS Sales Supervisor, has been training for the event and raising money for the past several months. In addition to the money donated by SIGVARIS, OrthoStep, a medical supply store who carries SIGVARIS products in Lakewood, N.J., also donated to the cause.

DiRenzo and her running partner have both been using several products in SIGVARIS’ Sports Line to help them train including the Performance Sleeve, the Performance Sock and the Athletic Recovery Sock to help them recover faster.

“I have been training in both the sleeves and the socks all summer/fall. They have made a huge difference in how my legs feel,” DiRenzo says. “They have given my legs a ton of energy and cut down on pain after my long runs. I couldn’t imagine doing this training without these products.”  Both DiRenzo and her running partner plan to wear SIGVARIS’ newest sports product, The Performance Sleeve, during the race.

“Having been the global leader in medical compression therapy for the past 50 years, SIGVARIS is at the forefront of creating the most effective compression products,” says Jason Kern, product manager for SIGVARIS North America. “SIGVARIS is proud to sponsor one of our own athletes who believes in our products and is using them for training and races. SIGVARIS is also proud to donate money to help end Alzheimer’s.”

When an athlete slips on a SIGVARIS sports product, he or she is benefiting from the science behind “true graduated compression” – compression that is strongest at the ankle and gradually diminishes as it goes up the leg. “True graduated compression” helps fight the force of gravity and circulate blood back to the heart and lungs more efficiently. When blood is properly circulated, it provides much-needed oxygen and nutrients to tired muscles that have been, or are being, deprived during a workout. Unlike the SIGVARIS Sports products, many other sports products do not feature “true graduated compression.”
